Why do not many companies value what information technology provides them?

The title of this article comes from several experiences we have had with clients in recent months. We are seeing that companies are changing their perception of the current situation and are opening, albeit timidly, the tap of investments. When any company considers an improvement in its computer tools, of course the price is an important factor, but it should not be the most important.
Any computer tool can contribute to the operation of the company an added value that can allow a leap of quality in many areas: management, customer service, time efficiency ... and this does not appear in the numbers of the operation.
There are companies that have these aspects clear and value them; they do not stay exclusively in the budget figures. But many others are not able to see beyond the price and it is a pity because they are giving up tools that would allow them to make a qualitative leap in their way of working and indeed some are screaming for it (although no one within the company listen to those screams).
With our Voice over IP solution we have seen it a few times. We make the company a study of what will be saved in telephony by eliminating lines and using VoIP operators over the Internet, and we also explain the technological advantages it will achieve: ease in locating people, integration with its programs, better service to the customer, possibility of recording calls, virtual operator with multiple rules by extension, timetables, number of origin, number called, multiconference, videoconference, statistics of times of use by department or client, incorporation of new features every few months, etc, etc…
However, some customers only keep the price, talk to their lifetime operator and get them to reduce their phone consumption to match what they would achieve using VoIP. And in exchange for marrying their current operator for short-term savings, they renounce technological advantages that would radically improve their way of working.
Let's make a simile in the world of cars:
You have a car that consumes 8 liters at 100 km.They offer you a latest generation model with interesting new features: lane change warning, night vision, emergency braking, complete multimedia equipment, integrated communications, GPS and all the virguerías that today's cars carry, and also consumes only 3 liters at 100 km.
You talk to your dealer and they offer you a device that makes your current car also consume 3 liters per 100 km.
What would you do? Would you change your car for a very small monthly fee or would you continue with your car a few years ago giving up all the available technology that will make your trips much more comfortable?
