DIASPORA
The term 'diaspora' has been derived from the Greek word meaning 'to scatter'. In fact, the word first entered English in the late 19th century. But today diaspora is used to refer to people who have left their homelands and settled in other parts of the world, either because they were forced to do so or because they wanted to leave on their own. In the history of diasporas the Jewish people can be the greatest example who were forced to leave their ancestral lands in ancient times. Not only that, diasporas in general and Jewish diaspora are very important complex sociopolitical entities that are playing a very vital role in most of the states across the globe. Again, the diaspora phenomenon is an expanding field of study. The movement of Aryans from Central Europe to the Indian sub-continent thousands of years ago is also a noteworthy diaspora, although the causes of this diaspora are still unclear. In twentieth century history, the Palestinian diaspora has attracted a lot of attention and been a cause of concern for the world leaders due to the plight (সঙ্কটাপন্ন দশা) of Palestinians. There have been massive diaspora in Africa, too, over the centuries, either because of war or because of the ravages of nature. On the contrary, the definition of diaspora has got a new dimension because of globalization. Globalization has opened the world borders for all and the people across the world have joined to diaspora for various reasons such as career, business, migration, brain drain, etc.

'ডায়াস্পোরা' শব্দটি গ্রীক শব্দ থেকে এসেছে যার অর্থ 'বিচ্ছুরণ'। আসলে, শব্দটি প্রথমে ইংরেজিতে প্রবেশ করেছিল 19 শতকের শেষদিকে। তবে আজ ডায়াস্পোরা এমন লোকদের বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয় যারা নিজের জন্মভূমি ছেড়ে পৃথিবীর অন্যান্য অঞ্চলে বসতি স্থাপন করেছে, হয় তারা বাধ্য হয়ে বাধ্য হয়েছিল বলেই বা তারা নিজেরাই চলে যেতে চেয়েছিল। প্রবাসের ইতিহাসে ইহুদি জনগণই সবচেয়ে বড় উদাহরণ হতে পারে যারা প্রাচীনকালে তাদের পৈতৃক ভূমি ত্যাগ করতে বাধ্য হয়েছিল। শুধু তাই নয়, সাধারণ ও ইহুদি প্রবাসীরা ডায়াস্পোরগুলি অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জটিল আর্থ-সামাজিক সত্তা যা বিশ্বের বেশিরভাগ রাজ্যে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছে। আবার ডায়াস্পোরা ঘটনাটি অধ্যয়নের এক বিস্তৃত ক্ষেত্র। কয়েক হাজার বছর আগে মধ্য ইউরোপ থেকে ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে আর্যদের চলাচলও একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য প্রবাস, যদিও এই প্রবাসের কারণগুলি এখনও অস্পষ্ট। বিংশ শতাব্দীর ইতিহাসে, প্যালেস্তিনি প্রবাসীরা ফিলিস্তিনিদের দুর্দশার (দুর্ঘটনার দশা) কারণে অনেক মনোযোগ আকর্ষণ করেছে এবং বিশ্ব নেতাদের জন্য উদ্বেগের কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। আফ্রিকার বহু শতাব্দী ধরেও যুদ্ধের কারণে বা প্রকৃতির ধ্বংসের কারণে প্রচুর পরিমাণে ডায়াস্পোরার ঘটনা ঘটেছিল। বিপরীতে, ডায়াস্পোরার সংজ্ঞা বিশ্বায়নের কারণে একটি নতুন মাত্রা পেয়েছে। বিশ্বায়ন সকলের জন্য বিশ্বের সীমানা খুলে দিয়েছে এবং বিশ্বজুড়ে মানুষ পেশা, ব্যবসা, মাইগ্রেশন, মস্তিষ্কের ড্রেন ইত্যাদির বিভিন্ন কারণে ডায়াস্পোরায় যোগ দিয়েছে
